Brief Biography – David Clark
"Winner of BBC Mastermind 2007-8"

I was born in Chiswick, West London in 1964, and brought up in the London Borough of Ealing. I attended Oaklands Primary School, and Elthorne High School. I studied for a BA in English in University of London Goldsmiths College, and graduated with a 2:1 in 1986.

Also in 1986 I married Mary, and we moved to Port Talbot in South Wales. We have five children – Phillippa, Michael, Zara, and the twins, Jennifer and Jessica. I studied for a postgraduate teaching certificate in Swansea University in 1987, and in the September of the same year I began teaching English in Cwrt Sart Comprehensive School in Neath. I am still teaching English in the same school, where I am also Head of Year.

My quiz career began in 1981, when I won my school’s own version of Mastermind. After taking up my post as a teacher I began to take part in pub quizzes, and league quizzes throughout South Wales. I have appeared on other TV shows, namely Come an Have A Go If You Think You’re Smart Enough, Eggheads, and Who Wants to be a Millionaire, where a mistake cost me a lot of money !

I always  had an ambition to appear on “ Mastermind “. In 2006 I was knocked out in the first round, but in 2007 I won the title. In 2007 my specialist subjects were “ The Life and Career of Henry Ford “ – “ The Prince Regent – later King George IV “ and “ The History of London Bridge .“

The history of London has always fascinated me, and after reading Patricia Pierce’s superb book, “ Old London Bridge “ I knew that if I ever appeared in the final of “Mastermind “ I would desperately want to take the history of the bridge as my subject.
